June 19 to June 21, 2000 - Tahiti Moorea Sailing Rendezvous, 4th edition
An interactive event between tourists, sailors and locals. A day of sailing starting from Papeete Harbor's Yacht Dock to Moorea, then followed by a variety of local competitions such as outrigger canoe races, javelin-throwing and fruit-carriers' races.

June 24- July 25, 2009 - Heiva I Tahiti
This is the largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti taking place at beautiful To’ata Square in Papeete. In addition to the dancing and singing competitions, there are sporting events, cultural demonstrations, local cuisine and artisan stands.

 
During this event, culture and tradition are at the center of the festivities with tattooing, weaving, fire walking and so much more. This event brings nearly 10,000 participants together throughout the entire month of July.

Sep. 26 to October 4, 2009 - Taapuna Pro/AM Surfing, 7th edition
This yearly surf competition in the Taapuna coral reef pass takes place on the west coast of Papeete.

November 11th-15th, 2009 - Tattoonesia
An annual cultural tattoo festival/convention in French Polynesia where tattoo artists and tattoo enthusiasts come together and share their designs, techniques, and history used in this ancestral art form. There is also live music, a beauty contest, documentary films to view, traditional Polynesian dancing and much more
